Adapting our adventures ðŸ’œ

The happiest moments are often the simplest ones 💜

This week we spent some time away at a caravan, making memories as a family and enjoying a change of scenery.
Family holidays are something many people look forward to, but when you have a child with additional needs, they can look very different.
I’ve learnt over the years that we don’t just pack clothes and snacks. We pack patience, planning and the ability to adapt.
Sometimes I find myself watching other children running around, dancing at the entertainment, joining in with activities and doing things that come so naturally to them.
And if I’m honest, there are moments when my heart aches.
Not because of who Isla is.
But because I wish the world was easier for her.
I wish she didn’t have to work so hard for things other children don’t even have to think about.
I wish she could join in with everything without barriers standing in her way.
But then I look at Isla.
I see her smile.
I see her determination.
I see her enjoying the holiday in her own way.
And I’m reminded that happiness doesn’t always look the same for every child.
Over the years, we’ve learnt to adapt.
We’ve learnt that family adventures don’t have to look like everyone else’s to be special.
We’ve learnt to celebrate what Isla can do rather than focusing on what she can’t.
Most importantly, we’ve learnt that some of the best memories are made when we stop comparing our journey to anyone else’s.
Our holidays may look different.
Our family life may look different.
But different doesn’t mean less.
And every smile, every laugh and every memory made together means just as much.
